“Gelilah”

2021

“Gelilah” (2021) means the act of rolling up the Torah and dressing it in its vestments. In “Gelilah,” I listen to my ancestors’ lessons and desperately attempt to carve out a contemporary context for Judaism. I draw the viewers into my world in hopes they will reconnect with the well of resources that are their own personal and chosen histories. This piece has been in workshop since September 2021 and had its first presentation at “Open Source” at The Tank in November 2021. My collaborators and mentors include Madeline Coven (Sculptor), Lauren Hlubny (Directorial Consultant), and Misha Shulman (Rabbi).
